87:11 but the wretched will avoid it,
87:12 who will enter the Great Fire,
87:13 wherein he will neither die nor live.
87:14 Indeed, he who purifies himself will attain success,
87:15 and remembers his Lord’s Name and prays.
87:16 But you prefer the life of this world,
87:17 even though the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
87:18 Indeed, this was in the earlier Scriptures,
87:19 the Scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
88:1 Has there come to you the story of the Overwhelming Event?
88:2 On that Day, some faces will be humiliated,
88:3 overburdened and weary[1],
88:4 as they burn in a scorching Fire.
88:5 They will be made to drink from a boiling spring,
88:6 and they will have no food except bitter thorny plants,
88:7 that neither nourishes nor satisfies hunger.
88:8 Other faces on that Day will be joyful,
88:9 well-pleased with their past striving,
88:10 in an elevated garden,
88:11 wherein no idle talk will be heard[1].
88:12 There will be a flowing spring;
88:13 and couches raised high,
88:14 and cups placed ready,
88:15 and cushions lined up,
88:16 and splendid carpets spread out.
88:17 Do they not reflect on the camel, how it is created;
88:18 and the sky, how it is raised high;
88:19 and the mountains, how they are firmly set up;
88:20 and the earth, how it is spread out?
88:21 So remind [O Prophet]; your duty is only to remind;
88:22 you are not assigned to compel them.
