86:1 By the sky and the night comer –

86:2 and how do you know what the night comer is?

86:3 It is the star of piercing brightness[1] –

86:4 there is no soul except that there is a watcher over it.

86:5 Let man reflect on what he was created from.

86:6 He was created from a spurting fluid,

86:7 emerging from between the backbone and the ribs[1].

86:8 Indeed, Allah is able to bring him back to life.

86:9 On the Day when all secrets will be disclosed[1],

86:10 he will then have no power, nor any helper.

86:11 By the sky and its recurring rain[1],

86:12 and by the earth that cracks open [with the sprout of plants],

86:13 Indeed, this [Qur’an] is a decisive word,

86:14 which is not for amusement.

86:15 Indeed, they are devising a plan.

86:16 I am too devising a plan.

86:17 So bear with the disbelievers and respite them for a while[1].

87:1 Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High,

87:2 Who created and fashioned in due proportion,

87:3 and Who determined [the creation] then inspired them,

87:4 and Who brings forth the pasture,

87:5 then makes it into withered chaff.

87:6 We will teach you [the Qur’an], so you will not forget,

87:7 except what Allah wills[1], for indeed He knows what is manifest and what is hidden.

87:8 We will guide you to the easy way[1].

87:9 So remind, if the reminder should benefit[1].

87:10 He who fears Allah will take heed,
